The book is published!

I first met Minako Seki in 2015 and was captivated by her method of Bodywork, dance and movement. She combines physical principles such as gravity, momentum and suspension with energetic principles of alignment, Earth and Sky, and then brings in movement exercises and explorations which are ignited through images. I explored her method for ten years myself - she was my primary teacher for this time - and revealed a path where I could weave in my knowledge and experience of body psychotherapy, as well as my own healing and creative process, which generated such richness!

In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, she approached me to write her book. Minako had been giving online workshops at the time where I had been transcribing her exercises, which gave us the confidence to work together on something bigger. Together with Lili, we sketched out the shape of the book and began with interviews to unearth the many stories that Minako could tell us about her life. Part Two of the book, the Seki Method as a Way of Life, was also born from these interviews, its principles arranged around the theme of ‘cultivating.’ Minako and I combed through the sentences in Part Three of the book, the Seki Method Manual, so that the text remains faithful to her approach and teaching method, hoping to balance a loyalty to imagination with enough of a technical explanation to be able to do the exercises straight from the book. We worked with Lili Lenfant, whose beautiful illustrations are visual anchors and exemplifiers, and I feel they help with the challenge of expressing Minako’s method in words; when teaching she communicates so much through images, body language, movement, emotion and intention.

I am grateful for Minako’s trust in me writing her book and thank you to everyone who supported the birth of this book! I hope that it brings its readers many joyful moments as bright facets of the self are uncovered and they discover new ways of moving and being!
